Welcome

TLR-DS-Sanctuary-xc2-W.jpg
Once again, almost a year – a tumultuous, roller coaster of a year, has passed, and I have found myself way overworked again.
Wanting to find time to upgrade my websites, and just not finding that time.
However, I have at last spent much time over some months reworking the look of the website, and assembling bucket-loads of new things to post – so check back and see what you think when the new make – new model megabytes your way in the proximal future.
The new site will finally be closer to what I always wanted the site to be; new presentations, features and more sections and pages.
I apologize for two things: Firstly, for not being more of a fanatic for site updates and frankly, the site largely said much of what I wanted it to. Secondly, I am looking into whether it’s viable to have a Shop section, to help sell posters and so forth.
I’m just an average working shmoe, not massively enterprising, but massively enthusiastic and passionate about my work.
A friendly reminder – some stuff on this site is Adult Material, so parents are advised to show vigilance and discretion when allowing family members to view it.

Ciao for the nonce

Brisbane Supanova

April 5-6, 2008, RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane, Australia

This was a rare event for me. I very rarely attend conventions of any kind. I just don’t enjoy them as a rule. I like my creature comforts, and crowded venues with lacklustre or poor facilities and amenities and screaming soundtracks, microphones and megaphones add up to the opposite of any sort of definition of a good time. But apart from those drawbacks – there were some really cool things about Brisbane that made up for it in spades.
There were so many great looking young people wearing beautifully-made costumes from a wide range of media properties, including Marvel and DC characters, Final Fantasy and Sailor Moon, as well as countless others – even a character from Miyazaki’s Spirited Away!
In the photo above, from left to right are; My sister, Cecilia, my niece Aislinn, and Arthur Suydam, clearly smitten with my family members. Arthur is renowned for his work in Heavy Metal magazine and his Marvel Comics covers. The three seemed to gab incessantly for the whole two days of the con. I had been amazed when Aislinn and Cecilia had both jumped at the chance of attending the Con, and were an immense help, both practical and emotional. Arthur was an amazing guy, and a true “kindred spirit” as Anne Shirley said in the Green Gables books.
We sold a huge quantity of both my Girls – From Line To Colour and sold out of the copies of our First Limited Edition The Last Realm – Book One: DRAGONSCARPE that we brought with us.
I was delighted at the feedback I got to my illustrations from everyone there. I felt I had achieved the level of quality in my work I had always hoped.
I want to send a special thank you to Ian Gould, Owner/Manager of Ace Comics & Games and to Trung Tram, my brother-in-law who treated us to such a good time at one of Brisbane’s best Chinese restaurants.
